Thumbs up to Dr. Jun Xu , of Greenwich, who is about to embark on a humanitarian mission to the West African nation of Senegal to participate in the opening of a new school in Dakar, the country's capital. Xu, who came to the U.S. in 1988 and opened his Riverside office in 2000 after finishing medical studies, helped raise the $100,000 it took to open the school.

Greenwich's St. Catherine's Troupe Auditions For 'Peter Pan'

St. Catherine's Players will have open auditions for its 2016 production of "Peter Pan" Monday, Nov. 30, and Tuesday Dec. 1, at St. Catherine Church, Lucey Parish Hall, 4 Riverside Ave., Riverside. This is the Broadway version of the show with mainly adult principals and an active ensemble of all ages.

Stamford's Asbury Moulding And Millwork Celebrates Third Anniversary

Asbury Moulding and Millwork in Stamford recently celebrated its third anniversary of offering high-end products and installation for homes and businesses in Fairfield and Westchester Counties as well as New York City. Based in Stamford, it opened up its lumberyard and millwork shop in September 2012 to fill the need for a store that specializes in mouldings.

Knife-Wielding Man Apprehended in Riverside

A 28-year-old man with a criminal record dating back 10 years was arrested on a weapons charge after he was seen "acting erratically" and "carrying a large knife" on East Putnam Avenue in the Riverside section of town. Police wrote in their report that they found Parker M. Ross, 28, of 35 W. View Pl., Riverside, "with a hood pulled tightly over his head and face.

Greenwich Police Warn That Suspicious Driver Followed Student

Greenwich Police are warning residents about a Silver Volvo XC60 that followed a 15-year-old foreign exchange student while she was on her morning walk. On Oct. 10 at 9:30 a.m., a vehicle driven by an older, white, balding man, followed the girl as she walked along Putnam Avenue in Riverside to Valley Road in Cos Cob, police said.

Man with a knife, about to enter Riverside gas station, charged with weapons possession

Authorities were called to the Mobil station on East Putnam Avenue in Riverside Saturday around 2 p.m. A 911 call reported a man acting suspiciously with a knife visibly in his possession, attached to his waist.

Greenwich Police Question Driver Who Approached Teen 4 Times

Greenwich Police are continuing their investigation of an incident involving a man who stopped a teenager four times while she walked along East Putnam Avenue on Saturday. Greenwich Police said the 15-year-old foreign exchange student reported that it was about 9:30 a.m. Oct. 10 when an "older white male who was balding a stopped the juvenile at four different locations along East Putnam Avenue in Riverside to Valley Road in Cos Cob."

Antonio E. Fantin: A Jack of All Trades Who Loved to Cook for Others

Antonio Elso Fantin, of Greenwich CT, passed Oct. 3 2015 at the age of 82, just over two months after the passing of his beloved wife, Josephine Carlucci Fantin. Born in Villotta di Chions PN, Italy on March 9 1933 to Emilio Fantin and Emilia Facchin, Antonio was an old world mason.

Three Men Gang Up To Attack Darien Man Over Cigarette, Stamford Police Say

STAMFORD, Conn., -- Three Greenwich men are facing charges of ganging up to viciously attack a Darien man who didn't want to give them his last cigarette early Saturday in downtown Stamford, police said. Eric Macken, 20, of 15 Bird Song Place, Riverside, and William Kimball Rosato, 21, of 140 Cutler Road, Greenwich, are each charged with third-degree assault, conspiracy to commit third-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace.

Single Family Home Sales Rise 15 Percent In Greenwich In 2nd Quarter

Greenwich real estate posted big gains in the second quarter in units sold and median sale price, according to reports from local brokerages. The number of homes sold rose 15 percent and the median sale price rose 9 percent according to the report from Houlihan Lawrence.

GREENWICH, Conn. An Argument and Smashed iPad Leads to Man's Arrest

A man is facing second-degree criminal mischief and second-degree breach of peace charges following a weekend argument that included a computer being smashed, according to Greenwich Police. Police say they were called to a Sheephill Road residence in the Riverside neighborhood of town just before 2 p.m. Feb. 15. Officers found that an argument between the suspect and a girlfriend escalated and the suspect reportedly smashed the woman's iPad to the ground.

Slow Down At Railroad Crossings, Fairfield County Driving Expert Says

Collisions between cars and trains are the greatest source of injuries and fatalities in the railroad industry, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Railroad Administration . Nationwide about 270 deaths occur a year at public and private grade crossings.
